"Gemini" Surfactants
Product Overview
This is a double-chain double-hydrophilic-group synthetic surfactant with a much lower CMC (critical micellar concentration), lower Krafft point and better hard water stability than traditional activators. It exhibits unique properties as a foam control agent and a gelling agent.
Gemsurf is a trial product undergoing development as a double-chain double -hydrophilic-group synthetic surfactant at our company. Alpha 142 is the representative dicarboxylic acid grade from this chemical group (alkyl group = lauryl).
The Gemsurf Alpha 142, a dicarboxylic acid, has 2 hydrocarbon chains (lauryl group), exhibiting excellent surface-active properties by neutralizing it with various alkalis.
Characteristics of Gemsurf Alpha 142
- It has lower critical micellar concentration (CMC) than ordinary single-chain surfactants.
- It has excellent surface tension lowering capabilities (γcmc).
- It has excellent wetting force, penetration, emulsification force, dispersion force, resistance to metal ions, foaming properties, skin irritability, antimicrobial action, and detergency.
- It forms non-micelle higher aggregates (e.g. bilayer membrane vesicles) relatively easily.
Properties of Gemsurf Alpha 142
- Gemsurf Alpha 142: A dicarboxylic acid with two lauryl groups (C12). It comes as a white powder with a high melting temperature (93-96°C) and high purity (>90 wt%). It becomes water-soluble when neutralized with alkalis and exhibits excellent surface activity. It is also soluble in solvents and has solvent-based inorganic dispersion properties.
- In addition to Gemsurf Alpha 142, we can also trial-manufacture Alpha 102 (C10) and Alpha 182 (C14) as modified alkyl groups.
- We can also provide samples of Gemsurf 142 neutralized salt.
Applications
- Gemsurf Alpha 142 turned into a neutralized salt becomes an aqueous surfactant with emulsifiability, dispersibility, foam stability, and detergency. It can be used for perfumery, detergents, and industrial uses.
- Gemsurf Alpha 142 is solvent-soluble and capable of being used as solvent.
- Gemsurf Alpha 142 can be used as an additive or modifier for emulsifying agents, dispersion agents, wetting agents, foam stabilizers, solubilizers, resins, and waxes.
